Erie Otters News Release
The Erie Otters (21-17-5-2) saw its two-game winning streak come to an end Monday evening at the Tullio Arena, as the squad dropped a 6-1 decision to its Midwest Division rival, the Kitchener Rangers.
It was all Kitchener in the first, as it scored four goals on nine shots to go into the second period with a 4-1 advantage. Andrew Crescenzi scored the first goal at 4:17, while Julian Cimadamore recorded the first of his two in the frame at 4:52 and Jeremy Morin added the fourth of the period at 17:54.
Erie's Shawn Szydlowski got the Otters within two with his 11th goal of the season - his fourth in as many games - at 16:34 to make the score 3-1. The power-play goal came after a pass from Anthony Luciani to an open Szydlowski in the high slot, where he beat Kitchener goalie Mike Morrison through the legs. Rookie David Broll picked up the secondary assist on the play.
In the second, the Rangers extended their lead to 5-1 just 18 seconds into the period as Morin recorded his second, as he beat Ramis Sadikov, who replaced Adam Courchaine to start the second.
The Rangers would add one more in a very physical third period. Morin would add his third of the game at 11:04 as his shot went through heavy traffic and beat Sadikov.
Kitchener's Michael Catenacci, Cimadamore and Morin were named the Three Stars of the game.
The Otters will hit the ice next in London, to battle the Knights Friday evening, game time slated for a 7:30 p.m. start. That game will kickoff a four-game road trip, as Erie won't return home until Jan. 29 to take on the Niagara Ice Dogs.
Fans can listen to game action on Fox Sports Radio AM 1330 The Fan and ottershockey.com, starting at 7:15 p.m. with the pre-game show.
