BUFFALO, N.Y. (January 25, 2007) --The National Lacrosse League announced Wednesday that Buffalo's John Tavares was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Mark Steenhuis was named Transition Player of the Week for Week Four of the NLL season.

Tavares was named the Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in a 22-13 home win over the Minnesota Swarm on Saturday. Tavares flirted with two NLL records as he recorded 10 assists and 13 points in the win, both of which are one shy of single game records. Tavares scored three goals, including one short-handed goal and one power play goal. The veteran also collected six loose balls in the win. For the season, Tavares, the league's all-time leading scorer, leads the NLL with 31 points (11+20) in four games.

Steenhuis earned Transition Player of the Week honors after scoring seven points on three goals and four assists and collected 10 loose balls in the win over Minnesota. He scored one of his goals on the power play. A native of St. Catharines, Ont., Steenhuis has eight goals and five assists in three games this season.

The Weekly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the league's 13 member clubs.
