Chicago Shamrox News Release
CHICAGO, IL January 25, 2007- The Chicago Shamrox (2-1) head west on Friday night to take on the San Jose Stealth (1-3) at 9:30 p.m. CST in the third game of a 4-game road trip at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA. The game marks a return for several current Shamrox and former Stealth players including Cam Woods and Brandon Miller. You can watch the game live, online, via the B2 Networks link on www.chicagoshamrox.com.
Woods, who earned the 2004 NLL Co-Defensive Player of the Year award while playing with the Stealth, had appeared in all 109 games of the Albany/San Jose franchise prior to the 2007 season. He served as captain of the Stealth in 2006 and serves in the same capacity for the Shamrox in 2007. It is expected to be an exciting night for the 7-year veteran.
"I am sure that it will be a lot of fun for Cam." said Shamrox Head Coach/GM Jamie Batley. "I know Cam is happy to be back east and closer to home. But, I am sure that he is excited to go back out west and show his wares with his new team. It should be a fun night for sure."
Another Shamrox veteran making a return to Northern California for the first time in an opposing uniform is Shamrox goaltender Brandon Miller. Miller, played in 56 games for the Albany/San Jose franchise from 2001-2006 including a 4-3 record with the Stealth in 2004. Miller is currently second in the NLL in save percentage (.802) and second in the NLL in goals against average (11.00).
"Brandon really has started out strong this season." said Batley. "We wanted to build are roster with a strong defensive front. Having him back there really has solidified our defense. He sat back and learned the past few seasons in San Jose. This past summer, he really played great and that is carrying over into this season for sure."
The Stealth built up their offense in the off-season acquiring veteran forward Colin Doyle from the Toronto Rock during training camp. Doyle, a 9-year NLL veteran, has amassed 738 points (325g, 413a) during his illustrious career with the Toronto/Ontario franchise. This year with the Stealth, Doyle has only 3 goals on the year but has racked up a league-leading 21 assists on the 2007 campaign.
"Colin has been a great addition for us." said Stealth Head Coach Walt Christianson. "A lot of people will measure how good a player is by how many goals he scores. But, he has meant much more to this team than scoring goals. He gets the ball to the right guys, is an excellent leader and has been well accepted by the team. We know the goals will come, but he is still having an outstanding year for us."
The first place Shamrox look to get back on the winning track after falling to the New York Titans last weekend, 11-9, in New York City.
"We definitely got outworked last weekend." said Batley. "I promised our ownership and our organization that we wouldn't and we did. That won't happen again."
