BUFFALO, N.Y. (March 28, 2007) --The National Lacrosse League announced Wednesday that Buffalo's John Tavares was named Offensive and Overall Player of the Week, while Mark Steenhuis was named Transition Player of the Week for Week 13 of the NLL season.

Tavares was named the Offensive and Overall Player of the Week after tying his career-high of 13 points on seven goals and six assists in a 19-15 win over the Colorado Mammoth on Saturday. The seven goals also represented a career-high for Tavares, who is now just 10 goals shy of breaking Gary Gait's record of 596 career goals. Tavares, the NLL's all-time leading scorer, had a 13-point game earlier this season with three goals and 10 assists against Minnesota on Jan. 20. For the season, Tavares leads the NLL in scoring with 86 points (38G, 48A).

Steenhuis earned Transition Player of the Week honors after scoring two goals and adding three assists in the team's win on Saturday. He also picked up seven loose balls. Steenhuis currently ranks third on the Bandits with 40 points on 20 goals and 20 assists.

The Weekly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the general managers and head coaches of the League's 13 member clubs.
