Phoenix Mercury News Release
Phoenix, Ariz. - The Phoenix Mercury will honor Diana Taurasi, the WNBA's brightest star, on Sunday, September 19 with her very own bobblehead doll, presented by The Roomstore. The first 5,000 fans at the Mercury vs. Houston Comets game on September 19 will receive the special giveaway doll bearing the unmistakable likeness of the WNBA's 2004 No. 1 pick.
Courtesy of The Roomstore, this special collector's item features Taurasi in her #3 home Mercury uniform, her charismatic smile and of course, her trademark bun. On seeing the doll for the first time, the rookie proclaimed, "The bun's hot!"
Taurasi, in her first WNBA season, currently ranks sixth in the WNBA in scoring (17.1 points per game), 10th in assists (3.8 assists per game), and is tied for 11th in minutes per game (33.4 minutes per game). Drafted first overall on April 17, Taurasi has quickly made a name for herself in the WNBA and in Phoenix. The 6'1" Connecticut grad takes her basketball success with a grain of salt, having won three consecutive NCAA Championships at Connecticut, being selected No. 1 in the WNBA Draft, winning a gold medal in Athens, and also making a strong run for WNBA Rookie of the Year honors. "It's just basketball, it's what I love to do," said the ever-humble Taurasi.
Doors to America West Arena will open at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 19 for the 6:00 game. Throughout September, the Mercury are offering a special "Mercury Family Fun Pack" ticket offer to any of the final five home games. The Mercury Family Fun Pack is comprised of four tickets, four hot dogs, four medium sodas plus two Mercury t-shirts for just $44.
Tickets for the Mercury's regular season finale are available by visiting
