Governor Napolitano Returns to Coach Mercury

Phoenix, Ariz.- Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano will join the Phoenix Mercury coaching ranks when she returns to the bench on Friday, September 17, assisting Head Coach Carrie Graf, when the Mercury host the Washington Mystics at 7 p.m. The role of guest coach is not new to Napolitano as she served as an honorary coach to the Mercury last season. In her first stint as honorary coach, Napolitano helped guide the Mercury to a 66-59 victory over the New York Liberty on July 29, 2003.

Governor Napolitano will be available to the media for a pre-game interview session in the Pacific Room (Zero Level) of America West Arena from 6:15 - 6:30 p.m.

In addition, Governor Napolitano, a breast cancer survivor, will join the Mercury in a halftime presentation in celebration of Breast Health Awareness. The Phoenix Mercury have teamed up with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to assist in the fight against breast cancer.

"We're very excited that the Governor is willing to take time from her duties to show her continued support of our organization and the WNBA," said Jay Parry, COO of the Phoenix Mercury. "Governor Napolitano's strength as a woman, a political figure and a breast cancer survivor is inspiring and we are honored to have her take part on Friday."

Throughout September the Mercury are offering a special "Family Fun Pack" for any remaining home games. For only $44, fans will receive four tickets, four hot dogs, four medium sodas and two Diana Taurasi t-shirts, a value of over $100! Tickets for all Mercury home games start as low as $8 and are all in the lower bowl.

The Mercury will conclude the 2004 regular season on Sunday, September 19 when they host the Houston Comets at 6:00 p.m.
