June 2, 2023 - Florida State League (FSL)
Bradenton Marauders News Release
Tampa, Fla. - The Marauders (25-24) and the Tarpons (20-28) in the fourth game of their six-game set at Steinbrenner Field on Friday night. The game had a scheduled start time of 6:30 but got underway after 7:30 as another game that went way into the night after rain went down to the wire. Bradenton had a massive six-run lead well past the game's halfway point. The advantage would be overcome as the Tarpons walked off the Young Bucs for the second time this week, winning by a final of 7-6.
Enmanuel Terrero and Jack Brannigan singled to lead off the game for the Marauders, which set up Termarr Johnson to blast his second home run of the season deep to left, giving the good guys a 3-0 lead after half an inning.
The Marauders added another run in the fourth off a balk to bring a man in and then a Shalin Polanco two-run home in the fifth inning to give Bradenton a 6-0 lead at the halfway point in the game.
They got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when they rallied with two outs to push three men to cut the Marauder's lead in half, putting the scoreline at 6-3 with four innings to play.
Tampa tacked on another with a sac fly in the bottom of the seventh to further chop down the Marauders' lead to two runs with a pair of innings to play.
After the Marauders' offense logged just one hit in the final four innings, Tampa came to the plate in the home half of the ninth, trailing by two. The inning started when one man reached on an error, and a few batters later, after a near double-play turn, the Tarpons plated a run on a Jared Serna RBI single to cut the deficit to one run. After a balk brought in the tying run, the Marauders loaded the bases intentionally to set up a force at any bag, looking for a twin kill to force extras.
In the second pitch of Brenny Escanio's at-bat, a pitch got away from Marauders catcher Geovanny Planchart and rolled to the backstop, and the winning run came into the score, giving Tampa the 7-6 walk-off win.
The Marauders and Tarpons meet again on Saturday night at 6:30 with Derek Diamond on the mound for Bradenton.
