Talley, Rabago Lead Win over Raptors
September 6, 2015 - Pioneer League (PL)
Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release
Christian Talley tossed five scoreless innings while Chris Rabago added two hits and a great defensive play in the Grand Junction Rockies 5-2 win over the Ogden Raptors on Saturday night at Suplizio Field.
Talley allowed just two hits, and struck out five including the last three men he faced following a leadoff triple by Michael Medina in the fifth inning.
Rabago finished with two hits and an RBI, though his biggest contribution may have been picking off Matt Jones at third base with two out in the eighth inning when the Raptors had the bases loaded, trailing by three with Scott De Jong at the plate.
The pickoff at third came after the Raptors had scored two runs in the inning and had the momentum. After the Rockies went scoreless in the bottom of the inning, Hunter Brothers retired the side in order in the ninth to lock down his sixth save of the season.
Tyler Nevin doubled home Sam Hilliard with two out in the bottom of the second inning to put the Rockies on top. Rabago followed with an RBI double of his own. The Rockies added three runs in the sixth thanks to two-out RBI hits by Chris Keck, Campbell Wear, and Cole Anderson.
Hilliard had three hits for the Rockies and scored two runs. Rabago had their only other multi-hit game.
The win improves the Rockies to 12-23 in the second half, 32-41 overall, and it severely hurts Ogden's playoff hopes. Idaho Falls beat Orem, so with the Raptors loss, the Chukars magic number is down to 1.
