February 20, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kitchener Rangers News Release

Kitchener - The Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club and the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Waterloo Wellington Branch are teaming up to raise awareness about the importance of mental health during an upcoming Kitchener Rangers home game vs. the Sudbury Wolves on Friday, February 23, 2018.

The Kitchener Rangers game on February 23 at 7:30pm ET will feature:

- A CMHA-run kiosk in the Community Corner so fans can learn more about mental health

- Videos featuring Kitchener Rangers players talking about the importance of mental health

- Public address announcements about mental health

The awareness campaign is part of the ongoing commitment by the Kitchener Rangers, the Ontario Hockey League and CMHA Waterloo Wellington to implement Talk Today, presented by Teachers Life. Talk Today provides mental health support to players and raises awareness about mental health and suicide prevention throughout communities across the OHL.

A key piece of the Talk Today program has been to educate players about mental health and suicide prevention. Every team has received mental health training specific to suicide prevention. Each team is also now linked to a CMHA Mental Health Coach, who provides support and mental health resources to individuals in need.

"These athletes are role models to so many kids in our community, and by giving them the skills to talk about mental health and recognize suicide risk, we're creating a safer community - both in the locker room and beyond," said Fred Wagner, Executive Director of CMHA Waterloo Wellington.

"As an organization, the Kitchener Rangers strive to provide an environment for our players that makes them feel comfortable confiding in staff, management or their teammates regarding any issue whatsoever, including mental health," said Alyscia Warner, Communications Manager of the Kitchener Rangers. "We hope that during our home game vs. the Sudbury Wolves on February 23, we also extend that comfortability to our fans and remind them they always have somewhere to turn if they, themselves, are struggling with their mental health."

Regular season tickets to all Kitchener Rangers home games are $23.00 each for adults, $19.00 for children 12 and under including HST, and are available in person or by calling the Activa Box Office at The Aud, from Centre in the Square (519) 578-1570 -or- 1-800-265-8977, or by purchasing online.
