Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Chris Carrara was 4-for-5 with three RBI and Stephen Hiscock delivered another quality outing as the RailCats routed the Explorers 13-3 on Friday night. The 'Cats earned a split of the four game series and gave skipper Greg Tagert his 400th victory as the RailCats manager.

The RailCats jumped out early with a seven-run first inning. With one out in the inning, Mike Massarao doubled and Mike Coles was hit by a pitch. Craig Maddox scored both of them with a triple off the wall in center field. Sean Henry followed with a single to bring home Maddox and make it 3-0. With two out, Carrara hit an RBI single and then with the bases loaded, Adam Klein capped the inning with a bases-clearing triple. The 'Cats scored seven runs on six hits in the inning while sending 12 men to the plate.

Kris Sanchez hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first off of Hiscock (2-4) to cut the lead to 7-2. The only other run off of Hiscock came on a double play in the seventh inning. He threw his team-leading fifth quality outing of the year, allowing three runs on nine hits in seven innings. He walked three and struck out two. Hiscock's ERA sits at 2.72.

Carrara hit a two-out RBI single in the second for his second hit of the night. In the fourth, Sean Henry clubbed a two-run homer, his second of the season and the series. Henry was 3-for-6 with three RBI in the game. After Carrara collected his third hit, another single, David Cooper drove him home with a single to give the 'Cats an 11-2 advantage.

In his fourth at-bat in the sixth inning, Carrara ripped an RBI double to left for his fourth hit. It was Carrara's first four-hit game of the season. Brian Kolb drilled an RBI single in the seventh for the RailCats final run.

Every RailCat had a hit in the game and all but two RailCats had multiple hits. All but two RailCats scored a run and six of the nine in the order drove in a run. The 'Cats pounded out 19 hits, one shy of matching their season high.

Tagert, who earned his 800th career win on May 30, is now 400-328 (.549) in his eight-year RailCats career.

The RailCats head home for a four-game series against Lincoln starting Saturday night at 6:10 at U. S. Steel Yard. Morgan Coombs (2-4, 6.26) will be on the bump for the RailCats.
