Tacoma Defiance News Release
TUKWILA, WASH. - Tacoma Defiance (1-2-1, 4 points) fell 2-1 to Whitecaps FC 2 (1-1-2, 6 points) Sunday afternoon at Starfire Stadium. Tacoma's Eric Kinzner scored his first goal as a professional for the home side since joining the club in 2021, but it wasn't enough as Whitecaps FC 2 was able to find the late winner to earn all three points.
Whitecaps FC 2 opened the scoring in the 27th minute via Pepe Fernandez-Salvador, who was able to get his head on the end of a cross sent in by Simone Masi and strike the ball past Defiance goalkeeper Andrew Thomas. Tacoma quickly leveled the score in the 33rd minute when Kinzner scored on a header of his own, this time getting on the end of a free kick sent in by Marlon Vargas.
Whitecaps FC 2 took the lead late in the contest, scoring in the 86th minute via Emiliano Brienza, who got his body on a defected cross and knocked it into the back of the net to seal the match.
Wade Webber's side next makes its second road trip of the season, traveling to PayPal Park to take on Earthquakes II on Monday, April 25 (5:00 p.m. PT / mlsnextpro.com).
