Tacoma Defiance Falls 3-1 at Oakland Roots SC to End Unbeaten Streak

OAKLAND, CALIF. - Tacoma Defiance (7-5-6, 27 points) fell 3-1 at Oakland Roots SC (5-8-5, 20 points) Saturday evening, completing a three-game road stretch that saw Wade Webber's side claim six out of nine points. The loss was Tacoma's first in its last nine matches.

Oakland got on the board early in the 13th minute courtesy of Kai Greene, who received a ball right in front of goal and shot it from point-blank range to go up 1-0. It was Tom Brewitt who leveled the score for Tacoma in the dying moments of the first half. The Liverpool native was able to get his head on a lofted ball by Sam Adeniran and rocketed it into the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Oakland again found the net in the 57th minute when Ariel Mbumba got a ball at his feet, spun around a defender and slid it into the back of the net to put the home side up a goal. Jeremy Bokila slotted in a ball from close range to make it 3-1 in the 82nd minute.

Tacoma returns to Cheney Stadium next week to face Las Vegas Lights FC on Thursday, September 2 (7:00 p.m. PT / ESPN+).
