Dunedin Blue Jays News Release

DUNEDIN, FL - The Tampa Yankees (12-7) used five home runs in the third inning to power their way to an 11-5 victory over the Dunedin Blue Jays (11-8) on Tuesday Night. All told, the Yankees belted six home runs, each of them to left field, on their way to a series opening win in Dunedin.

The Blue Jays were out of the gate with an early lead. RBI-singles in the first two innings by 1B Ryan McBroom and C Danny Jansen gave Dunedin a 2-0 advantage.

In the top of the third, the Yanks put their power on display with three solo shots and a pair of two-run bombs. CF Mike O'Neill got it started to cut the lead in half. After a SS Jorge Mateo single, 1B Billy Fleming gave Tampa the lead with his own jack. The next batter, 3B Miguel Andujar, followed Fleming, and 2B Abiatal Avelino made it three in a row. Those four came off starter LHP Ryan Borucki (L, 1-2). The fifth came on the first pitch from new pitcher RHP Carlos Ramirez to the ninth man to bat LF Zack Zehner, making it a 7-2 game.

Yankees starter RHP Gabriel Encinas left in the first inning with an apparent injury after facing just four batters. RHP Joey Maher (W, 1-0) was helpful out of the bullpen as he, RHP Eric Ruth and LHP James Reeves picked up the slack.

The Blue Jays scattered three more runs throughout the game while the Yankees added four, but the game was more or less decided at that point. Dunedin cut the lead to four after scoring two in the seventh, but the Yankees came right back to jump to 11 with a Mateo three run home run in the eighth.

In total, the two teams combined to unleash 28 total hits in a game that took less than three hours to play. CF Michael Bourn provided two late RBIs, going 2-for-5 with a double. They are back at it tomorrow at 6:30 pm ET with RHP Kyle Westwood facing off against Tampa's RHP Brody Koerner.
