KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Broc Coffman (4-2) threw a two-hit shutout for the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (9-15) at CommunityAmerica Ballpark this afternoon to prevent a three-game sweep by the Kansas City T-Bones (12-11), 3-0, in front of 5,827 fans.
Coffman didn't allow the T-Bones to push a runner past second base in the contest as the T-Bones suffered their first shutout loss of the season. The left-hander struck out four while walking three in his first career complete game.
Yurendell DeCaster started the second inning with a double off Ryan Knippschild (0-1) and scored Fargo's first run on a double by Randall Simon. After walking DeCaster and striking out Simon to kick off the fourth inning, Knippschild surrendered a double to Jeremiah Piepkorn which advanced DeCaster to third. Kole Zimmerman then drove in the RedHawks second run with an infield single.
DeCaster began the sixth inning with a single and advanced to third on a double by Simon. Carlo Cota capped off the scoring with an RBI groundout, plating DeCaster to push the score to 3-0.
The RedHawks' third baseman finished two-for-three and scored all three runs for Fargo.
Knippschild left the game in favor of Weston Curles in the eighth inning. The left-hander allowed three runs on six hits in the loss. Curles surrendered two hits over two scoreless innings to finish the game for the T-Bones.
Kansas City starts a seven-game road trip, beginning with a three-game series against the RedHawks tomorrow night. Dustin Bolton is set to start game one for the T-Bones opposite Garry Bakker for Fargo. First pitch is set for 7:00.
