JackHammers Win in Schauburg

SCHAUMBURG, IL-Four Joliet JackHammers (8-17) pitchers: RHP Jason Richardson, (5 IP); LHP Devin Anderson, (1 IP); RHP Jason Novak, (2 IP); and RHP Drew Shetrone, (1 IP); combined to hold the Schaumburg Flyers (15-9) to just two hits as the JackHammers scored five runs in the 2nd inning to power their way to a 7-0 win over the Schaumburg Flyers before 6,159 fans at ALEXIAN Field on Thursday night.

The JackHammers sent 10 batters to the plate in the 2nd inning against Schaumburg RHP Steve Shippey (0-1). DH Joey Gomes (1-5) led off the inning with a single and scored when 3B Andrew Pinckney (2-4) crushed a two-run home run over the right field wall for a 2-0 JackHammers lead.

LF Tim Alberts (1-1) followed with a single and was taken out of the game with an undisclosed injury. Jamie McGraw (0-3) came into the game to pinch-run for Alberts. RF K.C. Herren (1-4) continued the inning with a single and 2B Ryan Arcadia (0-4) popped out. CF Adam Klein singled to load the bases.

SS Kevin Rios (1-4) was hit by a pitch to force in McGraw from third base. C Phil Avlas (1-4) struck out for the second out of the inning. 1B Freddie Thon (3-5) hit a two-run single to score Herren and Klein and make it a 5-0 Joliet lead.

Joliet tacked on two more runs in the 4th inning. Arcadia grounded out to lead off the inning. Klein followed with a double and scored on a double by Rios. The JackHammers increased their lead to 6-0. Avlas walked and Schaumburg manager Mike Bush came to the mound to take Shippey out of the game.

LHP Alain Quijano entered the game and allowed an RBI single to Thon. Rios scored for a 7-0 Joliet lead.

Richardson (1-4), in his first start of the season and his first start since 2004 when he was a member of the Class A (Atlanta Braves) Myrtle Beach Pelicans of the Carolina League, pitched five innings and allowed just two hits. He walked one and struck out three men.
