GARY – Ray Brown led off the tenth inning with his league-leading seventh home run to power the Kansas City T-Bones to a 2-1 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats, in front of 3,080 fans at U. S. Steel Yard.

Brown smashed a 2-1 pitch from RailCats reliever Eric White (0-1) over the left-center field wall, an opposite-field homer. Brown also drove in the other T-Bones run in the game, with a fifth-inning RBI single that plated Eddie Pearson, who had reached on a leadoff double.

The blast ended a pitching duel between the RailCats and T-Bones, who combined for just 13 hits in the game. RailCats starter Tony O'Donnell pitched seven innings, yielding just one run on four hits while striking out a season-high six. Kansas City starter Caleb Balbuena threw five scoreless innings. Neither starter factored in the decision.

The RailCats batted just 1-for-12 in the game with runners in scoring position, picking up their only hit when Matt Howe bashed a two-out, RBI-double off the left-field wall in the eighth inning to plate Kenny White, who had drawn a leadoff walk.

T-Bones closer D. J. Johnson picked up his third save in as many games in the series, despite allowing a one-out double in the tenth to Curt Lee. Johnson retired Howe on a foul pop-up and struck out Mike Stoner on three pitches to nail down the win for T-Bones reliever Matt McClellan (3-0), who had worked a scoreless ninth.

The RailCats (6-16), have dropped 12 consecutive games. The T-Bones (8-15), after losing four straight in Joliet, have the opportunity to earn a split on their eight game road trip with a win Sunday.

The RailCats host Kansas City again Sunday afternoon at U. S. Steel Yard, in the finale of a four-game series, part of a six-game homestand for the RailCats. Sunday is Highland Community Day. Highland residents receive $2 off the price of box and reserved seat tickets (with valid photo ID). Plus, 40 random fans will receive an authentic RailCats jersey courtesy of the Chicago Tribune. (First pitch: 1 p.m.). The game will also be broadcast on the RailCats Radio Network, including WEFM 95.9, WJOB 1230 AM, and www.sportsjuice.com.
