
Flyers and Explorers split twin bill

SCHAUMBURG, IL- The Schaumburg Flyers (15-6) rallied from a 4-1 deficit to win Game One of a doubleheader with the Sioux City Explorers (9-13) 6-4 on Friday at Alexian Field. The Explorers won 9-8 in a back-and-forth battle in Game Two.
In Game One, the Explorers scored four early runs off of Flyers starter Brad Zielger (3-0). The score was evened at four in the bottom of the third inning when 2B Wandel Campana launched a three-run home run to left field. It was Campana's first homer of the season.
Flyers DH Nelson Gord drove in RF Ben Van Iderstine for the eventual game-winning run on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning in his first game as a Flyer. CF Eric Cole doubled home SS Geoff McCallum in the fifth to make it 6-4 Flyers.
Ziegler did not allow any more runs after the third and finished with six strikeouts and no walks in six innings pitched. RHP Gabe DeHoyos pitched the seventh for his second save of the season.
In Game Two, the Explorers took charge in the fifth inning when they put five runs across. 1B Marcel Longmire capped off the scoring with a two-run home run off of Flyers reliever Brett Weber. The Flyers came back to take an 8-7 lead with four in the bottom half, highlighted by a 2 RBI triple from 3B Chris Weekly.
In the top of the seventh, Sioux City scored two runs against RHP Gabe DeHoyos (2-1) on four straight singles. The Flyers loaded the bases with two outs in their final at-bat, but Gord ended the game with a groundout to second. RHP Jonathan Wiebe got his second save for Sioux City.
NOTES: Explorers starter Adam Shafer (1-2) took the loss in Game One...RHP J.D.
