
Flyers take out Explorers

SCHAUMBURG, IL- The Schaumburg Flyers (16-6) and Sioux City Explorers (9-14) combined for 35 hits and 21 runs on Saturday night at Alexian Field, but the Flyers offense prevailed with a 13-8 victory. Schaumburg has now won two of the first three games in the series.
The Flyers led 4-3 after two and a half innings, but they started to pull away in the third. DH T.J. Staton led off with a solo home run down the right field line. Four more hits in the inning plated two additional runs.
Five consecutive Flyers reached base to start the fifth and three runs scored to increase Schaumburg's lead to 10-3. LF Justin Hendrickson had an RBI single in the inning, one of his three hits on the night.
The Explorers came back with three runs in the top of the sixth, including an RBI single by RF Desi Wilson, who finished with four RBI. The Flyers put the game out of reach with a three-run home run by 3B Chris Weekly in the bottom of the inning. Weekly now leads the Flyers with five homers.
Both teams used four pitchers in the ballgame. RHP J.P. Fauske (2-0) got the win out of the Flyers bullpen and Explorers starter David Glick (2-3) took the loss. Sioux City CF Ryan Ruiz had five of the Explorers' 18 hits. He was 5-6 with an RBI and three runs scored.
