T-Bones shut out JackHammers, 4-0

JOLIET, IL-Three Kansas City T-Bone (19-20) pitchers combined to hold the Joliet JackHammers (15-27) to just six hits in a 4-0 win before 3,683 fans at Silver Cross Field on Monday night in the opener of a four-game series.

The T-Bones scored a single run in the 2nd inning against Joliet LHP Ryan Gehring (2-3). 2B Neb Brown (1-4) smacked a solo home run over the right field wall for a 1-0 T-Bones lead.

Kansas City pushed across an unearned run in the 6th inning against Gehring. 1B Damien Rolls (1-4) reached first base on an error and moved to third base on a double by C Craig Hurba (2-4).

DH Jim Fasano (2-5) hit an RBI double to plate Rolls for a 2-0 Kansas City lead.

Gehring lasted six innings and allowed two runs, (one earned run), on eight hits.

In the 8th inning, the T-Bones scored two runs against Joliet LHP Devin Anderson. Hurba worked a walk and moved to second base on a single by DH Jim Fasano (2-5).

LF Ryan Fox (1-4) followed with a single to score Hurba. Fox stole second base and moved to third base on a throwing error by Joliet C Phil Avlas. SS Mark Minicozzi (1-4) singled home Fox for a 4-0 Kansas City lead.

After Gehring, LHP Devin Anderson allowed two runs, (one earned run), on two hits in one and two-thirds innings pitched. RHP Drew Shetrone worked the final inning and one-third.

Former JackHammer Luis Villarreal tossed seven innings for Kansas City and allowed just six hits to the JackHammers. Villarreal played in Joliet from 2004-2006.

Loose Gravel: The JackHammers made a roster move before the game, releasing RHP Joe Panozzo and signing RHP Derek Barrows to a contract. Barrows started the season with Lancaster and Camden in the Atlantic League before signing with the JackHammers.
