Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 1-0 to the Kansas City T-Bones at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Wednesday night.

T-Bones' starter Matt Mitchell tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout to help the T-Bones take the rubber game of the five-game series.

Mitchell never allowed a runner past second base, and limited the Wingnuts to four hits and two walks. Mitchell threw 113 pitches, struck our four, and retired the final seven batters to face him in the win.

The only run of the game came in the top of the first. With the bases loaded and one out, Kala Ka'aihue hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Keanon Simon.

Newcomer Jared Bradford started for Wichita, allowing just the one earned run in four innings of work. Bradford took the loss, allowing seven hits, walking one, and striking out two.

The Wingnuts' bullpen combined for five shutout innings in relief of Bradford. Brandon Mathes and Kendy Batista each worked two, while Jared Simon pitched a scoreless top of the ninth.

Juan Richardson extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single to right field in the bottom of the fourth.

It was the Wingnuts' first 1-0 shutout loss at home in their history.

The Wingnuts signed Bradford prior to the game. The 25-year old right-hander pitched four seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals' organization. Bradford is 5-8 in his career with a 4.31 ERA in 163.0 innings pitched. Bradford has averaged just 2.0 walks per nine innings in his four professional seasons. The Birmingham, AL native pitched collegiately for two seasons at LSU from 2007-2008, and struck out 15 batters in just 12.1 innings during the 2008 College World Series. To make room for Bradford, the Wingnuts traded right-hander Michael Cotter to the Frontier League's Washington Wild Things in exchange for future considerations.

The Wingnuts open a three-game series versus the Lincoln Saltdogs on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Justin Murray takes on Saltdogs' right-hander Tim Brown. For tickets, call the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-NUTS or visit the Wingnuts' official website at www.wichitawingnuts.com.
