KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Andrew Cruse (9-4) allowed just one run over seven innings, and the Kansas City T-Bones (45-32) defeated the Rockford RiverHawks (38-39), 3-1, in game two of a doubleheader Saturday night in front of 8,537 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The win moves the T-Bones back into first place in the Northern League.
Cruse's only blemish came in the first inning as John Wagle started the game with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Victor Buttler. Wagle scored on the play when home plate was left uncovered.
Cruse scattered six hits and one walk while striking out three in the complete-game victory. He is now tied with teammate Cody McAllister and two others for the league lead with nine wins on the season.
Kansas City answered in the third on an RBI groundout by Rico Washington off Rockford starter Roger Lincoln (5-7), plating Keanon Simon. The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth when Jacob Blackwood began the inning with his third single of the game and scored on a double by Washington. Washington later came home on a wild pitch to cap the scoring at 3-1.
Lincoln allowed three runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out two in the complete-game loss. Neither team used its bullpen in the doubleheader.
Blackwood finished three-for-three, and Washington drove in two runs to pace the T-Bones. Blackwood went five-for-six with an RBI in the twinbill. The doubleheader sweep ensures a series victory for Kansas City, snapping a five-series losing streak.
Kansas City goes for the three-game sweep tomorrow night as left-hander Reid Santos (4-4, 5.17) faces off against Rockford right-hander Kyle Wright (6-2, 3.80). First pitch is set for 5:05. Catch all the action online at www.tbonesbaseball.com or on the radio at KXTR 1660 AM.
