Schaumburg Flyers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL - The rain seemed to have washed the cob webs off of the Flyers' bats as they appeared to be a new team on Saturday. The Flyers fell behind 9-0 on Friday's opener against the Jackhammers. After scoring three times in the first, the Jackhammers continued to pour it on in the second as Harker fell behind and got into deep counts. They went on to score once more in the third and fourth before the rain came and the game was suspended in the top of the fourth.
Play continued at Alexian Field with Matt Elliott taking the mound. After hitting the first batter, things started to turn around for the Flyers as Kit Pellow made an over-the-shoulder catch and fired back to Elliott who was covering first to turn a double-play. The Jackhammers and Flyers traded off runs in the fourth inning, but after Brad Correll's home run in the fifth, the Jackhammers were shut down.
The Flyers took off in the bottom of the fifth inning as Parzyk launched his first home run of the season which was followed by five singles in a row as the Flyers scored three runs in the inning. They loaded the bases again in the sixth. With two outs, Chris Schultz hit a two-RBI single and Travis Brown followed with a RBI single to score a total of four runs in the inning and cutting the deficit to 10-8.
Unfortunately, the comeback ended in the ninth inning as the Flyers were only able to score one more run and lose the game 10-9 as William Jackel picked up his first save of the season for the Jackhammers.
The second game of the night had a different tale, as Dustin Glant continued to shut down the Jackhammers with a complete game, four-hit shut out, improving his record to 8-4 overall.
Travis Brown singled in the third followed by a RBI triple by Ruddy Yan, who eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Kit Pellow. Two runs were scored in the inning and that was all Glant needed. The Flyers tacked on another in the fifth by Kit Pellow's second sacrifice fly of the game to score Tommy Fitzgerald. Adding two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, the Flyers secured their win 5-0, setting up a rubber match tomorrow at 1:20 p.m.
