
t-Bones defeat JackHammers, win streak ends

Kansas City, KSâ The Kansas City T-Bones (12-8, 32-36) defeated the Joliet JackHammers (11-8, 35-32) 9-to-3 in front of 4,947 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Wednesday night. The JackHammers ended their four-game winning streak while the T-Bones extended their winning streak to seven games. The JackHammers are 6-and-3 through nine games of this 12-game road trip. The JackHammers dropped to a half game out of first place behind the T-Bones. This was the first game of this four-game series.
Cody Nowlin's (2-for-4) one-out solo home run to right field in the bottom of the 4th inning ended a scoreless tie. Phil Thompson (2-for-3) followed with a double and later scored on a throwing error committed by third baseman David Gordon when throwing to third base on Chris LePine's (1-for-4) grounder. The T-Bones led 2-to-0.
The T-Bones added three more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning with a run scoring a wild pitch, a RBI single by Michael Brown (2-for-4) and a sacrifice fly ball to center field by Thompson. With the JackHammers trailing 5-to-0, Jermaine Allensworth (1-for-4) led off the top of the 6th inning reaching on an error. Later in the inning, Josh Loggins (2-for-4) knocked in Allensworth with a RBI single to left field. The JackHammers trailed 5-to-1.
Eddie Pearson (1-for-4), who placed second in the Northern League All-Star Home Run Derby earlier this season in Joliet, unloaded his league leading 17th home run of the season, a 3-run shot to right field in the bottom of the 6th inning. The T-Bones led 8-to-1.
JackHammers starting RHP Steve Hecker (4-7) exited the ballgame a batter before Pearson. He was charged with seven runs (six earned) on nine hits, walked three and struck out three in 5.1 innings. Hecker is now 3-and-1 in four starts versus the T-Bones.
The JackHammers tacked on a couple more runs in the top of the 7th inning. One run scored on Dan Firlit's (0-for-3) fielder's choice grounder and another scored on a sacrifice fly ball to left field by Gabby Delgado (2-for-2). T-Bones starting RHP Jonathan Krysa (6-6) pitched 6.1 innings and allowed three runs (all unearned) on five hits, walked three and struck out six. He earned the win. The JackHammers trailed 8-to-3. The T-Bones added a run in the bottom of the 8th inning when LePine scored on a Ray Brown (0-for-5) ground out. The T-Bones led 9-to-3.

The JackHammers and T-Bones will play the second game of this four-game series at 7:05 pm on Thursday at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. RHP Ben Ally (1-3, 4.81) is coming off his best start of the season and will start for the JackHammers, and RHP Matt McClellan (6-3, 3.48) will start for the T-Bones. The pre-game show which will begin at 6:45 pm and the game will be heard live on 1340-AM WJOL and at www.jackhammerbaseball.com.
The JackHammers return to Silver Cross Field to play the RailCats at 5:05 pm on Sunday, August 8. The promotions include a Bill Jacobs of Joliet Family Day featuring a package that include 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 souvenir cup Pepsi, 2 coupons for the Speed Pitch or Bounce House and one official game program. The package price is based on the type of ticket: $46 (Box), $38 (Reserved) and $30 (General Admission).
The first 1,000 fans will receive a team photo courtesy of Star 96.7 FM. Beginning when the gates open at 4:05 pm, Body Energetics Day Spa will provide a variety of complimentary spa services atop the Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana Chevy Dealers Rooftop Café. Services will include hand massages/mini manicures, chair/table massages and skin consultations. Each fan who visits the Rooftop Café will receive a Body Energetics goody bag. All JackHammers will be available after the game for an autograph session on the field. After autographs, the movie "Field of Dreams" will play on the left field video board.
