X's Upend Flyers

Sioux City, Iowa- The Sioux City Explorers (25-42, 7-12) ended a four-game home losing streak a they upended the Schaumburg flyers (41-27, 10-10) by a score of 8-3 on Wednesday evening in front of 2,223 fans at Lewis and Clark Park.

The X's pounded put 13 hits en route to their victory and received a strong pitching performance from starter Chris Swiatkiewicz. The right-hander worked seven innings to pick up his fourth victory of the season, allowing three runs – one of which was earned – on seven hits, while striking out eight Flyer batters and only issuing two free passes. Barry Mabry worked two innings in relief, allowing no runs in his appearance.

Newly acquired Ian Church went three-for-five with a pair of RBI and runs scored to pace the Explorer bats. Desi Wilson continued his quest for 1,500 career minor league hits with a two-for-five game. Wilson drove in three runs with his two hits.

Greg Salvevold suffered his first loss as a Flyer, working five and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on twelve hits.

The two teams will continue their four-game set on Thursday as the X's will send Tom Ford to the mound against Matt Bailie. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

NOTES: Both teams made a move prior on the off day, Schaumburg acquired Tim Merritt from St. Paul for a player to be named later, while the X's added Church from the Lincoln Saltdogs for a player to be named later.
