
T-Birds come up short against Tips

SEATTLE, January 27, 2007 - The Everett Silvertips beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 3- 1 Saturday night in front of 6,085 at KeyArena.
The Thunderbirds are 22-15-1-11, with 56 points in the race for the U.S. Division. They remain one point behind Spokane for third in the division. The second, third, and fourth place teams in the division are all only separated by seven points.
The Silvertips (39-7-0-2) got on the board at 12:24 of the first period on a goal from Kyle Beach. Taylor Ellington and Zach Hamill had the assists. Seattle outshot Everett 9-7 in the opening period.
Beach made it 2-0 at 9:50 of the second period on a power-play goal. Peter Mueller and Ondrej Fiala had the assists.
The T-Birds cut the lead in half at 19:50 of the second period on a power- play goal from Jan Eberle. Bud Holloway controlled the loose puck in the Everett zone. Holloway went behind the goal line and centered the puck into the crowd at the net. The puck trickled in between the left post and skate of Everett goalie Leland Irving to make it 2-1. The goal was Eberle's 14th of the year.
Everett outshot Seattle 10-8 in the second. Both teams had 17 shots apiece through two periods.
Mueller made it 3-1 on a power-play goal at 9:02 of the third period. Fiala and Jason Fransoo assisted on the goal.
Seattle outshot Everett 10-9 in third and 27-26 on the night.
Derek Yeomans stopped 23 of 26 shots he faced as his record goes to 16-10-1-9.
Irving stopped 26 of 27 shots and improves his record to 24-4-0-2.
The Thunderbirds are on the road for one game starting Sunday, January 28, when they head to Kamloops to take on the Blazers. Game time is 7:00 p.m. The T-Birds return home on Wednesday, January 31, to wrap up the month against the Prince George Cougars of the B.C. Division. The puck drops in KeyArena at 7:05 p.m.
