Syracuse Trims Roster By Five

Syracuse, NY (October 10, 2002) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that they have reassigned defensemen Tyler Sloan and Scott Heffernan and goaltender Shane Bendera from Syracuse to Dayton (ECHL). In addition, the Syracuse Crunch announced that they have assigned left wings Trevor Ettinger and Torrey DiRoberto to Dayton.

Sloan, 21, appeared in two preseason games with Syracuse, recording two penalty minutes. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Sloan was signed as a free agent by Columbus on September 24, 2000.

Heffernan, 20, appeared in two preseason games with the Crunch. A native of Montreal, Quebec, Heffernan was Columbus' fourth choice, 138th overall, in the 2000 Entry Draft.

Bendera, 20, did not appear in any preseason games with Syracuse. A native of St. Albert, Alberta, Bendera was selected by Columbus with their sixth choice, 169th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Ettinger, 22, appeared in two preseason games with Syracuse, recording seven penalty minutes. A native of Turo, Nova Scotia, Ettinger signed his second AHL contract with Syracuse on July 8, 2002.

DiRoberto, 24, appeared in two preseason games with the Crunch, recording one assist and two penalty minutes. A native of Utica, New York, DiRoberto signed an AHL contract with Syracuse on this off season.

The Crunch's Express Mart Opening Night is Saturday, October 19 against the Binghamton Senators. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a mini Championship Banner.
