Manitoba Moose News Release

Today the Manitoba Moose announced that Brian Chapman has been named the captain of the Manitoba Moose for the 2002-03 season. Forwards Ryan Ready, Jimmy Roy, Herbert Vasiljevs and Zenith Komarniski will be revolving as the alternate captains for the upcoming campaign.

This will be Chapman's fourth season with the captain's ‘C'. Last season, the 6'1 defenceman skated to one of his most productive and eventful seasons during his illustrious 14 year pro career. Chapman accumulated 32 points from two goals and 30 assists in 72 AHL games. In the AHL playoffs, he led the team with five assists and tied for second in team scoring with five points. During the season, Chapman played in his 1000th professional game on Jan. 22/02 vs. Chicago. The Brockville, ON native was also presented with the team's best defenceman award for the second consecutive season.

"Chapman brings leadership and character to this team," stated Moose Head Coach Stan Smyl. "His drive on and off the ice made him our choice to don the ‘C' for the Moose second season in the AHL."

Chapman originally took over the captaincy in the 1999-2000 season and is Manitoba's third captain, following Scott Arniel (two seasons) and the team's inaugural captain, Randy Gilhen.
