Syracuse, N.Y. - The Syracuse Chiefs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, picked up a 9-4 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox in the final game of their eight-game homestand Monday night at Alliance Bank Stadium. Syracuse won three out of four to take the series. The Chiefs are now 4-4 versus the Red Sox this season.

The Chiefs (45-34) took the lead without registering a hit against Pawtucket starter Robert Coello in the bottom of the first. Boomer Whiting and Chase Lambin both collected walks and Justin Maxwell was hit by a pitch loading the bases with none out for designated hitter Jason Botts. Botts lifted a sac fly to left, scoring Whiting with the first run of the night.

Botts knocked in another pair of runs in the third to put Syracuse on top 3-0. The DH pounded the ball over the right field fence for his second home run in a Chiefs uniform.

Pawtucket (34-43) stormed back in the fourth to grab a 4-3 lead. On the first play of the inning, Justin Maxwell lost his footing out in centerfield, letting Jorge Jimenez's fly ball drop for a two-base error. It was Maxwell's fourth error of the year. Jimenez scored in the next at bat on a double by Niuman Romero. Later in the inning, Red Sox leftfielder Aaron Bates walloped a three-run homer to left, giving Pawtucket a one-run edge.

The Chiefs sent seven hitters to the plate in the next half-inning to regain the lead. With two outs and two on, Pawtucket shortstop Gil Velazquez couldn't reel in Chase Lambin's pop up in shallow left field. Pedro Lopez scored from second on the play to tie the game while Whiting and Lambin moved into scoring position. One batter later, Jason Botts ripped a single to left, knocking in Whiting and Lambin for his fourth and fifth RBI of the game and a 6-4 Syracuse lead.

The Chiefs grabbed another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to extend their lead to five runs.

Coello lost for the first time this season, allowing five hits and six runs (three earned) in 3 2/3 innings of work for Pawtucket.

Shairon Martis earned the win to even his record at 5-5. He went 5 1/3 innings for Syracuse, giving up six hits and four runs (three earned). Martis walked three and struck out three.

Syracuse heads to Buffalo Tuesday night to begin a two game set with the Bisons. The pitching matchup will be Syracuse's Erik Arenesen (2-3, 3.48) against Buffalo righty Dillon Gee (6-5, 5.31). First pitch will be at 7:00.
