G-Braves Win with Ninth-Inning Rally

The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves beat the Columbus Clippers 4-3 at Huntington Park on Monday night. Todd Redmond pitched six scoreless innings, and reliever Craig Kimbrel earned his ninth save of the season. Mariano Gomez picked up the win for the G-Braves. Gwinnett (36-42) moved into third place in the International League South and Columbus (46-32) remains in first place in the IL West.

It Was Over When: Going into the ninth down 3-2, Mitch Jones led off the inning with a single. Josh Anderson replaced Jones on first and moved to third on a single by Joe Thurston. After a Wes Timmons walk, Clint Sammons grounded into a force out, scoring Anderson and Thurston to give the G-Braves a 4-3 lead.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Redmond went 6.0 IP, allowing 1 R/ER while posting 3 K's and a BB. Scott Proctor pitched a scoreless seventh and despite giving up two earned runs in the eighth, Mariano Gomez picks up his third win of the season. Kimbrel closed out the game with a H, K and 2 BB in a scoreless ninth.

At the plate: Freddie Freeman was 1-for-4 with a home run, while Diory Hernandez was 2-for-4 with his first double of the season and an RBI. Jones was 1-for-4 with the single that sparked the two-run ninth inning for the Braves.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: Josh Tomlin went 8.0 IP, yielding 2 R/ER while striking out six and walking one for the Clippers. Reliever Vinnie Pestano picked up his first loss of the season. He finished with 1.0 IP, 2 R (1 ER), K, BB.

At the plate: Jared Goedert (1-for-5, 2RBI) and Luis Valbuena (1-for-2, RBI) both went yard for the Clippers.

On Deck: Gwinnett travels to Toledo to begin a four-game series tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Braves RHP Ryne Reynoso (1-5, 4.87 ERA) is scheduled to face LHP Rick Porcello (no record) of the Mud Hens.
