
Syracuse Opera's Howell to Perform National Anthem on Opening Day

Syracuse, NY-The Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, are pleased to announce that tenor Jonathan Howell of the Syracuse Opera will perform the National Anthem on Opening Day, April 13.
Howell was named Syracuse Opera's 2008 Artist of the Year for his performance as Beppe in Pagliacci. He has also been featured in Syracuse Opera productions of Lucia Di Lammermoor,Carmen, Otello, The Magic Flute, La Traviate, MacBeth and Aida. He recently created the role of Major Duckworth in the world premiere production of Eleanor Roosevelt for Syracuse's Society for New Music.
"It is a great honor to have someone as talented and distinguished as Jonathan Howell to perform the first National Anthem of the season," said Chiefs General Manager John Simone.
A native Syracusan, Howell is a cantor at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Pompei Church and will be the tenor soloist for St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral's upcoming performance of the Schubert "Stabat Mater" on Good Friday. Howell is a graduate of the University of North Texas and currently studies with Jon Fredric West.
The colors on Opening Day will be presented by the United States Army Syracuse Recruiting Station.
The Chiefs will begin the home portion of their 2011 schedule by hosting the Pawtucket Red Sox at 2:00pm on Wednesday, April 13, for the 15th Opening Day at Alliance Bank Stadium.
