Syracuse Earns A Series Split

August 6, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Ottawa Lynx News Release

An eighth-inning rally went for naught, as the Lynx dropped a 5-4 decision in 13 innings. The Chiefs earned a split in the four-game series in Ottawa with the win and Blue Jays starter A.J. Burnett threw five strong innings, striking out seven Lynx, in his rehab start.

The loss drops the Lynx record to 44-72 while Syracuse improves to 53-62.

Lynx Players Of The Day: Matt Padgett had a team-high three hits, but Gary Burnham's one hit provided most of the Lynx offence. His three-run home run in the eighth inning tied the game.

Game Recap: Chiefs starter A.J. Burnett, on a rehab assignment from Toronto, and Lynx starter Matt Childers each cruised through the first three innings Monday afternoon. Childers blinked first, giving up three runs in the top of the fourth inning before the Lynx cut into the lead with a run in the fifth. Gookie Dawkins doubled, moving to third on Jim Rushford's single and scoring on a groundout off the bat of Danny Sandoval. Syracuse got that run back in the top of the seventh to establish a 4-1 lead. But Gary Burnham squared the affair in the bottom of the eighth with a three-run home run over the right field wall, sending this game to extra innings. The 10th inning turned into the 11th and that turned into the 12th before giving way to the 13th inning. In the end, the Lynx played their longest game of the season, in terms of both time (3:47) and innings (13). Syracuse scored in the top of the 13th and the Lynx couldn't answer back.

Next Game: The Lynx have Tuesday off before heading out on a six-game road trip to Buffalo and Rochester. First pitch Wednesday night in Buffalo is 7:05 pm.

Probable Pitchers: Wednesday vs. Buffalo: Ottawa RHP Landon Jacobsen (1-5, 5.70) takes on Buffalo LHP John Koronka (1-2, 2.91).

Fans can venture up to the Upper Deck Sports Bar on the third floor of Lynx Stadium. The Upper Deck features nightly food specials and 30-cent chicken wings available after each Lynx home game!
