Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees in the final game of a five-game in four-day series from PNC Field (7:00 p.m.). Buffalo is currently 4-6 during their season-long 11-game roadtrip that ends tonight. On the mound tonight will be LHP Jeremy Sowers. The southpaw allowed just one earned run in 5.2 innings in a no-decision in Pawtucket last Thursday. The Yankees will counter with LHP Kei Igawa.
GO NORTH: All 28 of the Bisons remaining games are against IL North division teams. Buffalo's 31-21 record within the North is the best among the six teams. After an off day tomorrow, the Bisons will play 17 of the next 21 games at Dunn Tire Park. Each divisional rival will visit Buffalo during that stretch.
SWEET AND SOWERS: Jeremy Sowers has been outstanding in his last three starts. After a complete-game victory on July 20 against Syracuse (9.0IP, 2R, 0ER 8K), the southpaw has posted back-to-back no-decisions despite allowing just one earned run in each start. In the three games, Sowers has a 0.92ERA with 16 strikeouts in 19.2 innings of work (18H, 5R, 2ER, 5BB).
MONSTER TRIP REWARDED: Jason Cooper has been named the International League Batter of the Week for July 30-August 5. The outfielder has hit .500 (14-28) in his last eight games with six doubles, three triples, two homers, seven RBI and a 1.071 slugging percentage. Cooper has now taken over the team lead in triples (6 on the year), while his 36 extra-base hits are second only to Ryan Mulhern (47). Since July 29, Cooper has raised his batting average 28 points to .266.
HOT HITTERS: Ben Francisco and Ryan Mulhern are pushing each other for the team lead in batting average. Francisco has hit in five straight while Mulhern has an 11-game hit streak going into tonight. While both have a .314 average, Francisco's is actually .0000953 ahead of Mulhern. The two are 5th and 6th respectively in the IL in hitting.
HIT STREAK: Ryan Mulhern has the team's longest active streak at 11 games. Since July 27, he has averaged .447 (17-38) with three doubles, a home run, nine RBI and nine runs scored. Mulhern leads the Bisons with 119 hits on the year.
