Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Colorado Springs, CO - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC scored an equalizer in stoppage time to draw 1-1 on the road to the Real Monarchs SLC on Friday night.
The game started physical with the Monarchs earning an early yellow card and then a straight red card in the 13th minute as Julio Benitez made a dangerous tackle on José Torres. As the hosts started to sit deep defensively, the Switchbacks were pushing as Sebastian whipped in a cross from the right side of the box that Triston Hodge just couldn't turn on target with his thigh.
Deep into first half stoppage time, the Switchbacks had the opportunity to take the lead from the penalty spot as Anderson was tripped in the box. Hadji Barry stepped up and hit a strong shot to the left of the goal but Jeffrey Dewsnup made a strong save to deny Barry the record breaking goal.
The Monarchs took the lead early in the second half when a low free kick went across the box to find Kyle Adams on the back post. The Switchbacks almost responded immediately from a corner kick as Triston Hodge hit a volley on target that Dewsnup reacted to make the save.
A nice combination play on top of the box put Deshane Beckford in behind the Monarch's back line but Dewsnup closed down the angle to make the save.
Deep into stoppage time, Andre Lewis looped a header over Dewsnup and into the back of the net to rescue a point late for the Switchbacks.
The Switchbacks are back on the road for the final game of the season to face San Antonio FC on October 30th in a game that could decide which club will host the Western Conference Quarterfinal in the first round of the playoffs.
