Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Portland, OR - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC played Portland Timbers 2 to a scoreless draw in a Wednesday matinee at Providence Park in Portland.
Looking to build off their 3-0 victory over Tulsa on Friday, the Switchbacks were looking to come out with a strong performance against last-place Timbers 2. Portland showed promise early on in the match but Switchbacks keeper, Moise Pouaty, would come up with three huge first-half saves to keep Portland scoreless in the first half. The Switchbacks struggled in the offensive third, with their best chance coming just before halftime. A Josh Suggs corner landed in the box and bounced around but was eventually cleared away and the teams entered halftime scoreless.
The Switchbacks game out strong in the strong, with a handful of chances in the attacking third, but the Portland backline and goalkeeper would hold strong. Kevaughn Frater nearly got his first of the season but his distance shot was saved by an outstretched Hamilton for Portland. The teams would battle back and forth for most of the second half, but neither side was able to find the back of the net. Portland nearly found one just before the final whistle but Barmby saw his shot go just wide of the post. The match would finish in a 0-0 draw and give the Switchbacks their second consecutive shutout.
"I thought the player put in a solid and disciplined performance today," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "Defense was focused today and I thought we had some good looks at the goal today. Now we need to recover and get prepared for Vancouver on Sunday."
The Switchbacks will now travel to Vancouver to face Whitecaps FC2 on Sunday at 4:00 P.M. MT for the second of their three-game road trip. The Switchbacks will then travel to Salt Lake City to face Rocky Mountain Rivals Real Monarchs on Saturday, May 20th.
The Switchbacks will return home on Saturday, May 27th for a re-match against Reno 1868 FC. This will be the third night of the poster series courtesy of the Better Business Bureau.
