San Antonio's Billy Forbes Named USL Player of the Month
May 11, 2017 - United Soccer League Championship (USL) News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - San Antonio FC midfielder Billy Forbes has been voted the USL Player of the Month for March and April of the 2017 season. Forbes led San Antonio FC to an undefeated 6-0-1 record through the opening six weeks of the season, recording six goals and three assists as he proved the major catalyst for the USL's leading attack in the early going.
"It means a lot to see my hard work pay off," said Forbes. "This is the first award of its kind and I'm honored to be named Player of the Month, but it wouldn't be possible without my teammates and the coaching staff. At the end of the day it is not just me, it's a team effort."
Forbes received 64 percent of a weighted poll that included the USL Technical Committee (34% weighted vote), a national panel of independent media representing every USL market (33% weighted vote), and an online fan vote held at USLSoccer.com (33% weighted vote). Tampa Bay Rowdies midfielder Marcel Schî=A4fer finished second with 16 percent, while Toronto FC II goalkeeper Angelo Cavalluzzo was third with 11 percent.
The USL Player of the Month selections process in no way is tied directly to the voting and selection process of End of the Year awards such as USL MVP or position players of the year.
