Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Colorado Springs, CO - The Switchbacks have spent the last week in Herriman, Utah at the Zions Bank Training Center training every day and playing preseason games against Reno 1868 FC and the Real Monarchs SLC in the Wasatch Winter Cup. This was the first annual preseason tournament between all USL Championship teams.
"The experience we had in Salt Lake was invaluable to our preseason. From the facilities to the professional environment they have, we took a lot out of our trip," said Switchbacks Head Coach, Steve Trittschuh. "The players were focused and worked hard in training and in games and we learned a lot about each other."
On February 18th, the Switchbacks beat Reno 1868 FC 4-1 behind goals from Ish Jome (2), Mike Seth, and Shane Malcolm. After Reno 1868 FC beat the Real Monarchs SLC 4-0, the Switchbacks drew 2-2 against the Monarchs on February 21st after Rony Argueta and Mike Seth scored to crown the Switchbacks as the first ever champions of the Wasatch Winter Cup. The Switchbacks now have a record of three wins and one draw in their first four games of the preseason.
"We had good results in both games and know what we need to improve on to be ready for the season opener March 9th in Los Angeles. I want to thank the Monarchs for inviting us and hopefully we can do this again next year," said Trittschuh.
The Switchbacks will kick off their 2019 USL Championship season on the road to the Los Angeles Galaxy II on March 9th. The home opener is on March 16th as they host the Sacramento Republic FC at 6:00 PM at Weidner Field for a St. Paddy's Day celebration with fireworks and 16oz $1 beer for the first 30 minutes after gates open at 5:00 PM. Tickets start at just $12 and are available HERE. For the price of a Switchbacks ticket and 2-5 beers, it is cheaper than buying 2-5 beers at a bar or restaurant.
