Asheville Tourists News Release
Kannapolis, NC-- One day after a 15 inning marathon at CMC NorthEast Stadium, the Asheville Tourists had enough left in the tank to acquire one more win. Jose Briceno's bat shined in Asheville's 8-2 series finale victory over the Kannapolis Intimidators.
Briceno went to work in his first at-bat. The Tourists backstop came to the plate in the top of the first inning with two runners aboard and two outs. Jose launched a Robinson Leyer offering over the left-centerfield wall to give the Tourists a 3-0 lead.
In the second inning, Max White led things off with a triple and scored on Emerson Jimenez's double to right. Jimenez then crossed the plate on a throwing error by Leyer. The five early runs set the tone as Asheville's starting pitcher Johendi Jiminain worked through the Intimidator's line-up.
Jiminian did allow a solo Home Run to Adam Engel in the bottom of the third but kept the score at 5-1 up until the bottom of the seventh. With two outs and a runner at second, Nolan Earley doubled in a run to cut the Tourists lead to three.
However, Briceno had an answer. With two outs and the bases empty in the top of the eighth, the catcher blasted another pitch from Leyer over the wall for his second Home Run of the game.
Jordan Patterson made it back-to-back round trippers with a Home Run to right. Briceno came to the plate with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth and added an RBI single to the mix.
Jiminian notched his 11th win of the season; tying him for the league lead. Matt Pierpont pitched 1.1 scoreless innings while Dylan Stamey finished off the game with a scoreless ninth. The Tourists have won 12 road games in a row.
Asheville returns home for a marquee three-game series against the Savannah Sand Gnats beginning Tuesday evening. The first pitch is at 7:05pm.
