Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, Ga.- The Charleston RiverDogs did their damage early, and held the Gnats off the scoreboard in a 5-0 win Sunday afternoon at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats finished their homestand at 2-4.

The Dogs (10-14/43-51) chased Savannah starter John Michael Gant with a 4-run second inning in which Gant threw 37 pitches. First baseman Mike Ford led off the inning with a solo home run to right, his 10th of the year, to open the game's scoring. Catcher Eduardo de Oleo brought home a run with a sacrifice fly, and then centerfielder Brandon Thomas and rightfielder Mark Payton added RBI singles in the frame.

The Dogs picked up another run in the fourth on a Payton RBI double against Savannah reliever Dario Alvarez.

The Gnats finished the game with just four hits, all singles. Jonathan Johnson singled into leftfield with two outs in the fifth, for Savannah's first knock. Only three Gnats reached second base all day.

The Gnats are off Monday and begin a three-game series in Asheville on Tuesday night. Follow all of the action on News/Talk 630 WBMQ and online at sandgnats.com.
