Syracuse Mets News Release

Syracuse, NY- The International League today confirmed that due to the $40M reconstruction project scheduled to take place in 2012 at PNC Field, home of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, the facility will be unavailable for League play next season.

At the same time the League announced that the 2012 "home" games of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees will be disbursed amidst the other five International League North Division cities and one New York-Penn League city.

The 2012 SWB Yankees home games will be played in:

Batavia, NY

Buffalo, NY

Lehigh Valley (Allentown), PA

Pawtucket, RI

Rochester, NY

Syracuse, NY

Ten Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees home games will be played at Alliance Bank Stadium in 2012 - eight against the Chiefs and two others against the Buffalo Bisons. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will be the home team in Syracuse on April 14- 15, June 14-17, and July 14-15 against the Chiefs. The Yankees will host the Bisons on July 7-8.

"This brings to a close what has been a lengthy process with a number of twists and turns, but the League is quite confident the inconveniences experienced due to this relocation will ultimately be a small price to pay for the long term benefit of a sorely needed new facility for fans of the SWB Yankees," said International League President Randy Mobley. "I wish to publically thank each of our five International League teams that will be hosting additional games in 2012 for their willingness to pitch in and be part of the resolution to this matter. A special thank you is due New York-Penn League President Ben Hayes and members of the New York-Penn League for allowing International League games to be played in Batavia's Dwyer Stadium."

New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman said, "We very much appreciate the franchises in Rochester, Batavia, Syracuse, Buffalo, Lehigh Valley and Pawtucket welcoming us into their stadiums and hosting our SWB Triple A team's games next season. We will establish our base of operations in Rochester with more than half our home games played right there in Rochester. This will be a very interesting experience for our players and we're looking forward to having our highest level prospects playing in front of the legions of Yankees fans all across Upstate New York and into Allentown and Pawtucket. In 2013 we will return to Scranton Wilkes-Barre to a dramatically rebuilt stadium which will be our Triple A home for a very long time."

"This is certainly a unique situation and we are glad to be able to help out a fellow League member," said Chiefs General Manager John Simone. "The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre franchise and the International League will be better off as a result of the renovation of PNC Field and it was important for us to help in any way we could to resolve a critical League issue."

Additional details including specific dates and game times will be announced through the individual teams hosting the relocated games.

The Chiefs are scheduled to open the 2012 season on Thursday, April 5 at home against the Rochester Red Wings.
