Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
(Allentown, Pa.) - As part of an announcement made by the International League today, Coca-Cola Park will now host all eight games on their schedule that were originally scheduled between the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees at PNC Field in Moosic, Pa. The switch was made due to a $40 million reconstruction project at PNC Field that will make the facility unavailable for the 2012 season.
As a result, the IronPigs now have 80 scheduled "home" dates in 2012 - including all 16 against the Triple-A affiliate of the 27-time World Champion New York Yankees.
"In support of our neighbors and rivals, we're glad to provide Coca-Cola Park for additional games - especially for the outcome of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre organization and its fans to have a more state-of-the-art facility to call home," said IronPigs General Manager, Kurt Landes. "Additionally, we are pleased to be able to offer our fans eight additional games between the top affiliates of the region's most closely followed teams and, of course, two of baseball's most successful franchises."
The dates and times of added games at Coca-Cola Park appear below:
* April 5 (7:05 p.m.)
* April 6 (7:05 p.m.)
* April 28 (6:35 p.m.)
* April 29 (1:35 p.m.)
* July 5 (7:05 p.m.)
* July 6 (7:05 p.m.)
* August 29 (7:05 p.m.)
* August 30 (7:05 p.m.)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's remaining 64 relocated "home" games will take place in Rochester/Frontier Field (37), Syracuse/Alliance Bank Stadium (10), Batavia/Dwyer Stadium (7), Buffalo/Coca-Cola Field (6) and Pawtucket/McCoy Stadium (4).
New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman said, "We very much appreciate the franchises in Rochester, Batavia, Syracuse, Buffalo, Lehigh Valley and Pawtucket welcoming us into their stadiums and hosting our SWB Triple A team's games next season. We will establish our base of operations in Rochester with more than half our home games played right there in Rochester. This will be a very interesting experience for our players and we're looking forward to having our highest level prospects playing in front of the legions of Yankees fans all across Upstate New York and into Allentown and Pawtucket. In 2013 we will return to Scranton Wilkes-Barre to a dramatically rebuilt stadium which will be our Triple-A home for a very long time."
The IronPigs are expecting to announce ticketing information for the additional games soon.
