Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The RailRiders won their fifth in a row by stifling the Charlotte Knights on Monday night, 3-0.

VICTORY!: The RailRiders own their longest winning streak since the 2014 squad won five in a row from Aug. 15-19. That streak saw SWB sweep Pawtucket in four games at McCoy Stadium alongside a home win over Syracuse. Today, the team bids for its first six-game run since last year's team amassed its best winning streak of the season, also a six-gamer, from May 4-9. It began with a 16-2 rout of Norfolk and continued with a four-game sweep of Indianapolis at PNC Field and a 3-2 triumph in a series opener with Durham, also in Moosic.

YOU DOWN WITH OBP?: Rob Refsnyder hammered a double and walked twice as he extended the IL's best active on-base streak to 20 games. His run started in game two of the April 25 doubleheader versus Pawtucket. In that time, he has hit .388 while posting an OBP of .462 and 13 of his 16 RBIs. No IL player has assembled a better on-base streak in 2015. Both Charlotte's Dan Black (Apr. 11-May 7) and Toledo's Daniel Fields (Apr. 17-May 12) had 20-gamers that halted earlier this month. On Monday, Refsnyder was named the IL's Batter of the Week for May 11-17. The second baseman hit .400 with a league-best six extra-base hits and 22 total bases. He hit safely in all seven games played for his first such honor at the Triple-A level. He entered tonight's tilt on a nine-game hitting streak.

TIME TO MAKE THE DONUTS: The RailRiders earned their second straight shutout victory and their third overall. Bryan Mitchell (5+), Tyler Webb (1.1), Mark Montgomery (1) and Jacob Lindgren (1.2) combined on the donut delivery. Lindgren locked down his third save and lifted the team's total to 13, tying it for tops in the IL with Norfolk. SWB has not allowed a run in 26 straight innings since Nick Franklin's first-inning home run for Durham on Saturday. During that time the team's ERA has dipped to 3.42, good for seventh in the loop.

FOUR TO GO: The RailRiders have lifted their record to three games above .500 for the first time since the 2014 squad was 27-24 after a 6-5 win at Louisville on May 28. Today, they bid to rise to four games above sea level for the first time since the 2013 team was 20-16 after a 3-2 loss at Gwinnett on May 13.

MAY FLOWERS: Only one IL team (Columbus, 12-5) has a better record thus far in May than the RailRiders (11-6). SWB has hit the circuit's fifth-most May home runs (11) and has the league's fifth-best May ERA (3.02).

WHAT GOES UP: Slade Heathcott has cooled after his blazing-hot start to the season. Over his last seven games played, he has gone 3-for-30 (.100) with seven strikeouts and no walks. The slump has dipped his average from .325 to .280.

A TOUGH KNIGHT: Since going 7-1 against Charlotte in 2013, the RailRiders are 5-8 against the White Sox's top satellite. The clubs split a four-game series at BB&T Ballpark two-and-a-half weeks ago. The RailRiders finished the 2014 regular-season series 2-6 against the Knights. Before losing each set last season, SWB had not lost a series to Charlotte since dropping three of four from June 8-11, 2010 at Knights Stadium. That SWB squad still won five of the eight overall clashes though. The SWB franchise had not lost a season series to Charlotte since at least 2004 and suffered zero sweep defeats in that time.

OFF THE RAILS: The RailRiders pitching staff is tied with Norfolk (299) for the second-most strikeouts in the IL behind only Charlotte (300)...Only three IL teams have allowed fewer home runs than SWB's 16: Indianapolis, 11; Buffalo, 15; Norfolk, 15...Just two teams own better slugging percentages in the IL than SWB's .376 mark: Rochester, .391; Charlotte, .390...Charlotte went 1-for-12 with men in scoring position last night and stranded 11 men on base.
