Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
TEAM EFFORT: The RailRiders controlled every aspect of their Thursday series opener and cruised to a 10-2 win over the host Durham Bulls. At the plate, the RailRiders notched 12 hits and worked 10 walks while their pitching retired the last 18 Bulls batters.
THE BIG INNINGS: Down 2-1 in the fifth, the RailRiders amassed their best inning of the season to shift the game for good. Eleven men came to the plate with five runs scoring thanks to RBI hits by Nick Noonan, Slade Heathcott, Rob Refsnyder and Kyle Roller. Nine RailRiders batted in a three-run sixth to salt the advantage with RBIs by Heathcott, Refsnyder and Austin Romine.
SWEET 16: Refsnyder singled, walked, scored a run and drove in two to extend his on-base streak to 16 games. His on-base run started in game two of the April 25 doubleheader versus Pawtucket. In that time, he has hit .375 while posting an OBP of .444 and 10 of his 13 RBIs. It marks the longest active on-base streak in the league. His 11 doubles had him leading active IL players entering today after Maikel Franco's 12 two-base hits received a promotion to the Phillies. Refsnyder has crushed in 13 road games (.333/.400/.463/.863) compared to 17 home games (.254/.306/.313/.619).
IN FULL BLOOM: Ramon Flores walked three times and scored once. He has reached safely in 23 of his last 24 games including a 16-gamer (April 15-May 5).
SLADE'S BLADE: Heathcott doubled, scored twice and drove in two tallies on a two-hit night. It marked his first contest with multiple hits or RBIs since he also accomplished both on May 6 versus Gwinnett. He has fared quite well against fellow southpaws on the year, hitting .333/.361/.455/.816 compared to .306/.370/.378/.748 against right-handed hurlers.
WHAT ABOUT BOB?: Rob Segedin powered an impressive home run to left field to get the RailRiders on the board in the second inning. Each of his two RBIs on the season has come thanks to a big fly.
PITCHING PROWESS: Starter Jaron Long (2-2) won for the second time in as many starts. He started the year 0-2 with a 7.23 ERA after five nods. In winning his last two outings, he has allowed just one earned run over 11 innings (0.82 ERA). Relievers Diego Moreno (3) and Danny Burawa (1) combined for four perfect innings down the stretch. Moreno has not allowed a run in seven of his nine appearances and has held the league to 11 hits in 21.1 innings (.157 BAA) while whiffing 21 and walking just four (0.70 WHIP). Burawa has not allowed an earned run in 12 of his 14 outings and has held the league to 11 hits in 19 innings (.169 BAA) while whiffing 12 and walking eight (1.00 WHIP).
