Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

LAST TIME OUT: Second baseman Carlos Sanchez vaulted the Charlotte Knights passed the visiting Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 10-4 on Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark. Sanchez hit a homer from both sides of the plate and brought in seven runs for the Knights (14-8). The RailRiders slid to 11-13 on the campaign.

ROCKIN' ROB: Rob Refsnyder enters Sunday on a seven-game hitting streak, his longest Triple-A hitting streak. Refsnyder recorded a six-gamer June 26-30, 2014. The RailRiders' second baseman is 12-for-29 (.414) with four doubles and six RBI.

ON THE MEND: In his third game coming back from a concussion suffered in spring training, Jose Pirela finished 3-for-5. He is 7-for-14 (.500) with a double, home run, three RBI and two runs scored during his rehab stint with SWB. Pirela recorded three hits in each of the last two games.

GOOD THINGS COME IN THREES: Tyler Austin went 3-for-5. Austin owns a team-best three three-hit games. Entering Saturday, the Yankees' No. 16 prospect per Baseball America had just three hits in his last 27 at-bats (.111) over a span of eight games. He struck out six times during the drought.

A GAMEL-ING MAN: Ben Gamel ranks among the IL's best in batting average (4th, .375), on-base percentage (5th, .437) and slugging percentage (3rd, .594). His four triples have him trailing only Toledo's Daniel Fields (5). Gamel has more triples than four IL teams (Buffalo, Lehigh Valley, Norfolk, Pawtucket).

ABSORBING HITS: RailRiders pitchers have allowed 53 base knocks over the last four games (10+ in each). The team is 2-2 during this stretch. For the year, RailRiders hurlers have surrendered 219 hits, the 2nd most in the IL. Only Lehigh Valley (251) has yielded more hits.

STOLEN-BASE STRIFE: The RailRiders sit at the bottom of the IL for patrolling the bases. The team has nabbed just three of 27 attempting to steal (.111). Only Indianapolis has allowed more total steals (26), but owns a better efficiency (.235). Charlotte has also allowed 24 pilfered bags, but throw out runners at a .143 clip.

KNIGHTED: The RailRiders finished the 2014 regular-season series 2-6 against the Knights. The RailRiders had a tough time retiring Charlotte hitters. The Knights hit .341/.417/.594/1.011 as a team against SWB pitching. That included an eye-popping 17 home runs in just 65 innings. Charlotte hit just .256 against the rest of the IL while posting a 57-79 record (.419). Before losing each set last season, SWB had not lost a series to Charlotte since dropping three of four from June 8-11, 2010 at Knights Stadium. That SWB squad still won five of the eight overall clashes though. The SWB franchise had not lost a season series to Charlotte since at least 2004 and suffered zero sweep defeats in that time.

OFF THE RAILS: The RailRiders pitching staff ranks third in the IL with 176 strikeouts...RailRiders pitchers have tallied 190 strikeouts, 2nd most in the IL...SWB's Cole Figueroa entered today as the toughest hitter to whiff in the IL (42.5 PA/K)...Kyle Roller's 15 walks are 2nd most in the IL...Danny Burawa struck out the only batter he faced on Saturday and has not allowed an earned run in his last eight appearances...with two hits, Slade Heathcott has a team-high 10 multi-hit games...the first timer violation occurred on May 1 in the 4th inning at 7:49 p.m. against Charlotte pitcher Shawn Haviland.
