Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

CUT IT IN HALF AND DOUBLE IT: A gaudy offensive attack carried the RailRiders to an 8-5 win over the Gwinnett Braves (Atlanta Braves) at Coolray Field on Wednesday night. The RailRiders banged out seven doubles among their 14 hits to avoid a sweep defeat at the hands of the G-Braves (8-12).

HEATING UP: Rob Refsnyder doubled, walked and scored. Over his last five games he has gone 9-for-19 (.533), lifting his average by 70 points (.193-.263). In that time he has logged four doubles, five RBIs and three runs scored while whiffing just twice.

JOHNNY BE GOOD: Jonathan Galvez has doubled in each of his last three games, going 5-for-11 (.455) with three RBIs, three walks and a run scored in that time. He has started at first, third, designated hitter and in left field on the year.

ON A ROLL: Kyle Roller went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. His 15 walks have him behind only Durham's Vince Belnome (17) among IL hitters. Roller's .447 OBP ties him with Buffalo's Matt Hague for 3rd in the IL.

NOT-SO-GENTLE BEN: Ben Gamel cracked his team-best fourth triple to drive in a second-inning score. He ranks among the IL's best in batting average (T-1st, .386), on-base percentage (5th, .444) and slugging percentage (4th, .632). His four triples have him trailing only Toledo's Daniel Fields (5). Gamel has more triples than four IL teams (Buffalo, Lehigh Valley, Norfolk, Pawtucket).

BOLTING IT DOWN: Jose Ramirez tossed a hitless and scoreless ninth for his second save. He joined Jacob Lindgren as the lone RailRiders to post multiple saves on the young year. Ramirez has struck out 15 men in 13.1 innings. He has allowed just eight hits in that time while holding the league to a .178 average.

STOLEN-BASE STRIFE: Gwinnett went 4-for-4 in stolen-base attempts. The RailRiders have nabbed just three men in 25 tries on the year (.120). Only Charlotte has allowed more total steals (24), but owns a better efficiency (.143). The lone IL team that has proven less effective at nabbing would-be thieves: Buffalo (.100).

KNIGHTED: The RailRiders finished the 2014 regular-season series 2-6 against the Knights. The RailRiders had a tough time retiring Charlotte hitters. The Knights hit .341/.417/.594/1.011 as a team against SWB pitching. That included an eye-popping 17 home runs in just 65 innings. Charlotte hit just .256 against the rest of the IL while posting a 57-79 record (.419). Before losing each set last season, SWB had not lost a series to Charlotte since dropping three of four from June 8-11, 2010 at Knights Stadium. That SWB squad still won five of the eight overall clashes though. The SWB franchise had not lost a season series to Charlotte since at least 2004 and suffered zero sweep defeats in that time.

OFF THE RAILS: Only Norfolk's pitching staff has more strikeouts (169) than the RailRiders (168) in the IL...SWB's Cole Figueroa entered today as the toughest hitter to whiff in the IL (38.5 PA/K)...The RailRiders have not been charged with an error over a season-long five-game stretch...SWB has not played six straight error-free games since a nine-game run from July 18-26, 2014...Seven of those games took place during the Gwinnett/Charlotte road trip last year...The RailRiders outscored the G-Braves on the series, 15-14...The SWB franchise record for doubles in a game is 11, set on Aug. 10, 1997 at Syracuse...The RailRiders went 7-for-17 (.412) with men in scoring position last night...Each of the nine men in the lineup registered a hit including multi-hit showings by five RailRiders...Before yesterday's game, Gregorio Petit was recalled by the Yankees...He had never reported after his option the day before.
