Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

SPLITSVILLE: A lopsided 10-1 loss was promptly followed by a 5-3 triumph as the RailRiders split a twinbill with the Red Wings last night.

MY BAD: The IL's top defense followed a season-worst-tying three miscues on Sunday with a pair of mistake-free affairs last night. SWB owns a .983 fielding percentage and has made a league-low 43 errors.

ROSTER MOVES: Earlier today, the New York Yankees announced three roster moves for the RailRiders. Zoilo Almonte got the call to the bigs as did pitcher Adam Warren while southpaw Francisco Rondon has joined SWB from Double-A Trenton. Almonte departs with a .297 average and a team-high 36 RBIs. His dozen doubles tie him for second on the squad while his six home runs knotted him up with the team's third-highest total. Almonte went 3-for-6 in yesterday's doubleheader, including his team-best 21st multi-hit game of the season. He departed with an 11-for-20 (.550) showing over his last five games and a team- high .354 June average. Warren never threw during this stint with the RailRiders, but joined the team on the heels of a "quality start" in relief with six scoreless innings during the Yankees' 18-inning loss at Oakland on Thursday. Rondon began the year on Trenton's rotation, but struggled in six starts to a 2-2 record with a 7.16 ERA and five home runs allowed in 27.2 IP. In nine appearances since moving to the bullpen in early May, he has gone 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA and .210 batting aver- age against. As a reliever, he has posted more than a strikeout an inning. Overall, he held lefties to a .196 average.

UNDER THE SEA: SWB is seven games under .500 for the fourth time this season and spent the time between games yesterday eight under for the first time in 2013. It was last eight below .500 on Aug. 30, 2005 after an 8-2 loss at Syracuse dropped it to 65-73. The franchise has not been nine under since it was 30-39 after a June 21, 2005 win over Columbus.

DOUBLE DIPPING: While the RailRiders did not sweep the Red Wings yester- day, they have still not yet been swept when playing two. No IL squad has more doubleheader wins than the RailRiders, who have gone 11-3 in doubleheader games on the season.

ON THE CHASE: Reliever Chase Whitley (2-0) won for the second time in as many appearances in the nightcap. He has thrown four scoreless innings in that time while holding opponents to a 3-for-15 (.200) showing with four strikeouts and no walks. The outing before this run, Whitley bolted down a save against Buffalo on June 11 at PNC Field.

ADDING IT UP: Infielder Addison Maruszak went 3-for-7 yesterday with one of the team's two doubles. He paces the squad with 16 doubles on the year and has caught fire of late. He has hit safely in eight straight and 19 of 20. Over the longer span, he has hit .333 (23-for-69) with half of his season-long double total. The run has lifted his season-long batting average from .202 to .253, the best it has been since May 5.

RANDY DANDY: A late addition to the roster yesterday, veteran infielder/DH Randy Ruiz posted a pair of multi-hit showings. The knocks included the team's other double.

BOBBY'S WORLD: Catcher Bobby Wilson's three-run homer gave the RailRiders a lead they would not let up in game two. He has a knack for the big knock. While he has hit just .191 (26-for-136), he has 25 RBIs. He is 2-for-16 against Rochester this season, but both hits are homers.

Tonight's Probables

SWB: RHP Brett Marshall (2-5, 7.04) vs. ROC: LHP Andrew Albers (5-2, 3.01)

THE NODS: Brett Marshall tied with former SWB ace Ramon Ortiz for the most wins on the NYY farm last season (13) as he led Double-A Trenton to the EL finals. He also ranked among the farm's best in ERA (5th, 3.52) and K (4th, 120). His first pro season in '09 was cut short when he had TJ. He has not missed a nod since, going 26-16, 3.41 from the knife until 2013. He has had walk issues (6.5/9 IP), but since a tough first 3GS (0-2, 9.69) he was great over 3GS (2-1, 0.98). He then made his MLB debut May 15, but has struggled since returning (5GS, 0-3, 10.48, 22.1 IP, 9HR, .351 BAA, 7.3 BB/9 IP).

Andrew Albers' season debut came on Apr. 8 at SWB. In 4.2 IP, he allowed just 1R on 3H and 1BB with 5K. His first win did not come until his eighth start, but he enters with wins in five of his last six (5-0, 3.26). That includes a nine-inning SHO at GWN on June 7 when only one man got beyond first base against him all night. He has lasted at least six innings in nine of his last 10GS. He pitched one season in the indy Can-Am League in 2010 (40G, 3-0, 1.40) before signing with MIN as a minor league free agent on Mar. 11, 2011. The native Canadian had Tommy John on June 17, 2009.
