TONIGHTÂfS GAMES: After a split of their twin bill on Monday, the Red Wings seek a second straight series win in the rubber-match of this three-game set Tuesday night (7:05 p.m.) at PNC Field in Moosic, PA... The Wings have won 11 of their last 16 games and are 33-26 since their dismal 2-11 start to move just 3.5 GB of Norfolk in the Wild Card and 7.5 GB of Pawtucket in the IL North... Meanwhile, the RailRiders, after jumping out to a 17-11 record, have gone just 14-27 since May 6 and currently sit in 5th place in the IL North -- 10.0 GB of the Paw Sox.
¨HALFWAY HOME: After MondayÂfs doubleheader, the Red Wings have completed 72 games this season -- exactly half of their 144-game schedule. Despite getting off to their worst start since at least 1940 (2-11), at 35-37 the Red Wings are off to their best start through the first half of a season since 2007 (39-33).
WITH A WIN TONIGHT, THE WINGS...:
¨Will win their 5th series of the season and second consecutive series for the first time all year.
¨Will win a series against Scranton/WB for the first time since sweeping a two-game set July 30-31, 2011 -- a span of 9 series.
¨Will win a series at PNC Field for the first time since August 19-21, 2008... Were 3-21 @ SWB from 2009-2011.
ACE IN ALBERS: The Wings will hand the ball to LHP Andrew Albers tonight who will be seeking to extend his career-long win streak to six games. The Triple-A rookie is currently 5-0 with a 3.26 ERA (14 ER/38.2 IP) over his last 6 starts, including his first-ever complete-game shutout on June 7 at Gwinnett... Going back further, since the beginning of May, Albers is 5-1 with a 2.47 ERA (14 ER/51.0 IP) in 8 GS... His 3.01 ERA is currently 6th-best in the International League... The southpaw has gone at least 6.0 innings in 9 of his last 10 starts... And his ERA is over a full run better on the road than at home (2.43 in 37.0 IP).
¨Albers made his Triple-A debut against the RailRiders at PNC Field on April 8 allowing one run on 3 hits in 4.2 innings.
ANTOAN ON BASE...AGAIN: Red Wings leadoff man Antoan Richardson reached base 7 of his 9 trips to the plate in MondayÂfs doubleheader going 3-for-5 with a triple, double, 4 walks, 3 runs and 3 RBI. His OBP with the Wings rose to .462 and overall his OBP between New Britain and Rochester is .459 -- 5th best in all of baseball. Additionally, his four walks Monday give him 57 for the year in 67 games between Double-A and Triple-A -- three more than any other player in the game... With the Wings, Richardson is hitting .300 (36-for-120) with a team-leading 35 walks, 12 stolen bases and 5 triples (also good for 3rd-most in the IL) in just 34 games. His 27 runs scored are 3rd-most on the team... The six other Wings who have hit leadoff this season (Thomas, Olmedo, Dinkelman, Farris, Herrmann and Benson) hit a combined .214 (34-for-159) with only 17 runs, 14 RBI, 13 walks and 4 stolen bases in 38 games from the leadoff spot... The Wings are 19-15 with Richardson in the leadoff spot and 16-22 when someone else is... In June, Richardson is batting .328 with a .494 OBP and 10 RBI in 17 games.
MORE ABOUT LAST NIGHT...:
¨Vance WorleyÂfs complete-game in game 1 of MondayÂfs DH was the 6th for the Wings this season -- the most of any team in all of baseball this season... Their 5 CG-SHOÂfs still ranks first in all of baseball as well.
¨The Wings won their season-high 5th straight game with a 10-1 win in game one of the twin bill.
¨In game one, 8 of the 9 Wings starters picked up at least one hit for the 3rd time in the last 4 games.
AMONG BASEBALLÂfS BEST: 1B/OF Chris Colabello, added two more hits and two more RBI in last nightÂfs twin bill. In the last 8 games, since being optioned back to Rochester on June 10, Colabello is hitting .467 (14-for-30) with 5 extra-base hits, 2 homers and 11 RBI... Not only has he collected a hit in 23 of his last 25 games and in 32 of his last 35, Colabello has now picked up an RBI in 16 of his last 19 games (28 total) with the Wings... His .368 AVG ranks 2nd in all of baseball, while his .655 SLG and 1.088 OPS both rank 3rd in all of baseball (MiLB & MLB)... In the IL, ColabelloÂfs batting 19 points higher than anyone else, slugging 50 points better than his closest competitor in the league and his OPS is 98 points higher than the next best mark. HeÂfs T-1st in the IL with 21 2B, 2nd with 35 XBH and 144 TB, 3rd with .433 OBP & 4th w/ 81 hits and 52 RBI.
¨Through two weeks of fan voting, Colabello is the top vote-getter among all IL position players.
¨Colabello is riding a 17-game home hitting streak over which heÂfs batting .470 (31-66) with 5 HR and 20 RBI.
YOUNG GUNS IN THE BULLPEN: The bullpen combo of Blake Martin and Michael Tonkin, both Triple-A rookies, posted 3.2 scoreless innings of relief to help Cole De Vries win his 2nd game of the year on Sunday. Tonkin earned his 2nd Triple-A save and has yet to allow an earned run over his first seven Triple-A appearances with the Wings. The 6-7, 200-pound right-hander has struck out 8 and walked none in his first 8.1 innings while holding lefties hitless against him (0-for-12)... Meanwhile, Martin has allowed just one hit (1-for-21) over his first 7.0 scoreless innings in four appearances with Rochester.
