Charleston Swamp Foxes News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – The Charleston Swamp Foxes arenafootball2 team continue to fill roster slots with high-caliber athletes in preparation for the 2003 season. Kentrell Blatcher, Darryl Bayer, Zach Bishop, Sammy Toussaint, and Marcus Waters have been assigned to Charleston by the af2 league offices.

Blatcher and Bayer both come to Charleston with a year of af2 experience, having played for the Mobile Wizards in 2002. Blatcher is a 6-2, 298-pound offensive and defensive lineman. He played in nine games for the Wizards last year, tallying 15 total tackles, two and a half of which were for loss. He also had two and a half sacks and forced a pair of fumbles. Blatcher played collegiate football at Southern University Baton Rouge in Louisiana.

Bayer, a 6-5, 340-pound lineman played college football at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. He saw limited action last year for Mobile, only appearing in four games. He tallied a sack for a 10-yard loss and batted down a pass at the line of scrimmage for the Wizards.

"Getting these two guys, Blatcher and Bayer, will help us tremendously because of their size, but also their experience in the arena game," said first-year head coach Rik Richards. "Mobile was 0-16 last season, which is why these two guys didn't get the recognition they deserved. They are both powerful athletes who will benefit us in the trenches."

Bishop is a 6-4, 290-pound offensive/defensive lineman who played at East Carolina University. He started all 11 games his senior season in 2002. Bishop played in eight games as a reserve offensive lineman his junior season in 2001, seeing time at both center and right guard. ECU ranked in the nation's Top 25 in rushing in 2001 behind the performance of the line. Bishop and the Pirates also won three consecutive bowl games. In high school, Bishop was selected to play in the Shrine Bowl in football and placed third twice as a heavyweight wrestler.

Richards said, "Bishop has experienced playing in big games having won three bowl games. He's played all along the offensive line, and his experience at center is crucial for us."

Toussaint, a 6-3, 290-pound lineman, is the second Canadian-born player to be assigned to Charleston for 2003. He played college football at Concordia University, where he was a starting member of the 1998 Vanier Cup team. He worked out for the Montreal Alouettes, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL) following his college career.

"Sammy is an athlete in every sense of the word. In addition to his accolades on the football field, he played basketball in high school and has also trained for ultimate fighting and Chinese boxing. He had NFL scouts looking at him while in the CFL and I expect them to be calling again," said Richards.

Waters is a 6-5, 235-pound wide receiver/defensive back from Michigan State. In 2000, Waters caught 17 passes for 356 yards (16.4 yard average). At the MSU Pro Day in 2001, he ran 4.48 in the 40-yard dash. Waters was a highly recruited prep standout from the state of Florida. In high school, he played receiver, defensive end, safety, tight end, linebacker, quarterback, and running back, earning the title, "the most versatile athlete in the State of Florida" from PrepStar magazine.

"Marcus is a young guy who only played one year of college football despite being around the program for three," said Richards. "The speed he possesses for his size is phenomenal, especially when matched up one-on-one along the edge."

Season tickets for the upcoming year, which kicks off on April 5, are currently on sale. For more information about the tryout or tickets, please contact the Swamp Foxes' office at (843) 554-4321 or visit us online at www.goswampfoxes.com.
