Big Win Ventures to Operate Mohegan Wolves

NEW LONDON, Conn. (February 6, 2003) - Big Win Ventures LLC has become the new operator of the Mohegan Wolves, the af2 league office announced today.

Dr. Eric Margenau, the former principal operator of the Mohegan Wolves, will assume the role of President of Big Win and remain a substantial shareholder. Big Win, which is privately held, also announced today that it has assumed operations of the Albany Conquest of af2.

Last season, the Wolves were an af2 expansion team. More than 40,000 fans attended the Wolves’ eight home games. The Mohegan Wolves were the only professional American sports franchise that played its home games in 2002 at a casino - the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.

“We are committed to providing both winning teams and a great time for our fans in 2003 at the Mohegan Sun,” said Dr. Margenau. “The purchase of the Wolves franchise by Big Win gives us the ability to provide an even higher level of quality sports entertainment for our Connecticut fans and local sponsors.

In the fall, the Wolves announced the hiring of a new coach for 2003 - Connecticut’s own Mark Stoute. Stoute is an experienced Arena Football League coach who led the Toronto Phantoms to the eastern division championship in 2001.

The Wolves kick off their 2003 season on Sat., April 5, vs. the Rochester Brigade at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
