Rapid City Rush News Release

(Prescott Valley, AZ) - Damian Surma collected three straight goals for the Rush on Saturday night, earning the first 'natural hat trick of the young franchise's history in a 4-1 win against the Arizona Sundogs. With the victory, the Rush improve to 11-7-4 and have won three of their last four while earning points in seven of their last eight games. Rapid City is back in action on Tuesday against the Cutthroats at the Denver Coliseum. The game can be heard live on 100.3 the FOX or foxradio.com.

The Rush dominated the first ten minutes of the game, sending nine shots on net and tallying a goal before the Sundogs could register a shot on net. Rookie Scott Brannon opened the scoring with a rebound goal that was setup by linemates Jeff Lee and Rusty Masters.

The Rush were able to double the lead 4:10 into the second period on the first penalty shot of the season for the Rush. After a Sundog player covered the puck in the crease, Damian Surma was awarded the shot which he made no doubt about, lifting a backhand to the top-right corner. Five minutes later, Surma struck again, blasting a one-timer from the blueline while on the powerplay to extend the Rush lead to 3-0.

Surma completed the natural hat trick with his third consecutive goal, dancing past Arizona penalty killers before deking past Sundog goaltender David Brown. Two minutes later, Derek LeBlanc rifled a slapshot off the crossbar and in for a powerplay goal, but it was not enough as the Rush held on for the 4-1 win.

This marks the second hat trick in the past three games for Rapid City and 12th in franchise history.
