NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - The Brahmas (9-8-3) lost in a shootout 4-3 to the Denver Cutthroats Saturday night, ending a four-game home win streak.
The Brahmas got the scoring at the 4:00 mark of the first period as Tomas Klempa fed an open Phil Fox on the doorstep for his team-leading 10th goal of the season.
Fort Worth and Denver traded second-period scores as Troy Schwab found the back of the net for the Cutthroats at 9:16 and Ross Rouleau notched his second goal of the season on a slapshot from the right-hand circle at 12:36.
A back-and-forth third period began with Ben Wilson's game-tying goal just over five minutes into the final frame. Sy Nutkevitch deflected an Erik Spady slapshot past Denver netminder Kent Patterson at the 16:51 mark to regain the lead for the Brahmas. With only 1:34 remaining in regulation, Dean Strong put back a rebound by Fort Worth goaltender Kristofer Westblom to even the score at three goals apiece and send the game into overtime.
After a scoreless overtime period, the Brahmas failed to beat Patterson in the shootout. Denver got conversions from Jamie MacQueen and Luke Fulgham to seal the 4-3 shootout victory. MacQueen was credited with the game-winning goal.
Westblom stopped 27 of 30 shots fired on net by the Cutthroats in only his second losing effort of the season. Patterson made 34 saves on 37 Brahmas shots to pick up his seventh win of the season.
The Brahmas are back at the NYTEX Sports Centre Sunday, December 9 at 4:00pm as the Tulsa Oilers come into the shoebox for the sixth meeting of the season between the two teams.
The Brahmas have reduced individual ticket prices from a season ago, as well as lowering the price of full-season, half-season and 11-game ticket packages for the 2012-2013 season. For more ticket information, please contact a Brahmas sales representative at 817-336-4423 or visit www.brahmas.com.
